EXAM PREPARATION / PRACTICE

Goethe A1 listening: numbers, times and everyday conversations

Listen carefully: “halb zehn” is not ten o’clock, and a corrected detail can be the key information. Listen to four short German recordings, choose your answers and then compare them with the transcripts.

How to use this A1 listening practice

Read the question and choices first. Listen without opening the transcript, choose an answer and then check it. Replay a difficult part and repeat the key detail aloud. These synthetic recordings can be played as often as you wish. This is study practice, not a complete simulation of the official playback rules.

Distinguish numbers and times confidently

halb zehn = 9:30 Uhr
Viertel nach neun = 9:15 Uhr
Viertel vor zehn = 9:45 Uhr

dreizehn / dreißig · vierzehn / vierzig · fünfzehn / fünfzig

Say the number pairs slowly, then put them in a sentence: “Der Kurs kostet dreizehn Euro.” Create another sentence with thirty euros. Listen to a message until the end: words such as “nicht”, “sondern” and “leider” may change the original plan. Not every number you hear answers the question.
