telc B1 speaking part 3: plan something together
A good suggestion is just the beginning. Planning together also means listening, responding to ideas and reaching a decision with your partner. Practise using these original tasks and useful phrases.
Which exam does this guide cover?
This guide concerns the general-language Zertifikat Deutsch / telc Deutsch B1 exam. The third speaking part involves planning or solving a task together. Do not transfer its numbering to Goethe-Zertifikat B1 or DTZ. Consult the official telc practice test for the current procedure and assessment.
Practice task 1: organise a study day
Ihr Deutschkurs möchte am Wochenende gemeinsam lernen. Planen Sie einen Lerntag.
- Wo und wann treffen Sie sich?
- Was möchten Sie üben?
- Wer bringt Material mit?
- Wie organisieren Sie Essen und Pausen?
Write down one idea for each point, then start the conversation. Respond to a suggestion at least once and summarise the agreement at the end. If practising alone, alternate between both roles.
Read a sample dialogue
A: Wollen wir uns am Samstag in der Bibliothek treffen?
B: Die Idee gefällt mir. Am Samstag muss ich aber bis zwölf arbeiten. Wie wäre es um 14 Uhr?
A: Ja, das passt. Sollen wir zuerst Hören üben?
B: Lieber zuerst Schreiben. Dabei brauche ich noch Hilfe. Danach können wir Hörübungen machen.
A: Einverstanden. Ich bringe Schreibaufgaben und meinen Laptop mit. Kannst du Kopfhörer mitbringen?
B: Natürlich. Aber dürfen wir in der Bibliothek sprechen?
A: Im Gruppenraum schon. Ich frage morgen, ob er frei ist.
B: Gut. Nach einer Stunde machen wir eine Pause im Café nebenan.
A: Dann treffen wir uns Samstag um 14 Uhr. Ich kümmere mich um den Raum und die Aufgaben, du bringst Kopfhörer mit.
B: Genau. Ich schreibe den anderen im Kurs.
The dialogue includes a suggestion, an alternative, a reason, a follow-up question and a clear division of tasks. It is a study example, not a scored exam performance.
Useful phrases for suggestions, responses and decisions
- Vorschlagen: „Wie wäre es mit …?“ / „Ich schlage vor, dass wir …“
- Zustimmen: „Das klingt gut, weil …“ / „Damit bin ich einverstanden.“
- Eine Alternative nennen: „Vielleicht wäre … besser, denn …“
- Nachfragen: „Was meinst du dazu?“ / „Kannst du dich darum kümmern?“
- Zusammenfassen: „Dann machen wir es so: …“
Use these phrases flexibly. A long memorised speech is less useful when your partner makes a different suggestion.
Practice task 2: plan a class outing
Ihr Kurs möchte einen Ausflug machen. Besprechen Sie Ziel, Anreise, Kosten und Essen. Einige Teilnehmende haben wenig Geld. Finden Sie gemeinsam eine passende Lösung.
After the first round, change one condition: it is raining, the train is cancelled or someone can only arrive later. Find an alternative together. This trains responses rather than a fixed script.
Your self-check after the conversation
- Did I make and explain my own suggestions?
- Did I ask questions and respond to the other person?
- Is it clear who will do what, and when?
- Did we decide the important points together?

The B1 app supports preparation with sample dialogues, writing templates, listening and reading tasks, mock tests, grammar and vocabulary. The official telc B1 format also includes language elements. Use suitable official materials for those tasks; grammar exercises alone do not replace a full exam simulation.
